There is only one cause and that cause acts through you in your thought. You are a mental being. You are a thinker. The very word "man" means "a thinker." Sanskrit is the great grandfather of all the European languages. You are a thinker rather than a doer because what you do is only what you think. We do not like to face up to that. Sometimes it can be very embarrassing. We like to think that we are rather nice people, but now and again, we do things which are not so nice, and we like to think we can be nice not withstanding. We cannot, because the deed is only the outer expression of the thought. Now a good deal of nonsense has been taught in the metaphysical movement about the power of thought. To hear some people talk about the power of thought, they would think you could build the Eiffel Tower in their back yard tomorrow afternoon, just by the power of thought. Thought has no power whatsoever unless it is accompanied by feeling. It is only the thought which you feel that demonstrates. The idea that every thought you think for a single moment is going to do something to you is childish, because it does not. You can readily see that if that were so humanity would just be nonexistent by now. Remember that when you come into the metaphysical movement, it does not mean that you can check your hat at the door and your common sense with it. You must bring your common sense along. Anything that will not stand up to true logic and will not demonstrate in practice, must be wrong. Only those thoughts are demonstrated which are felt strongly. When you give a treatment (when you pray scientifically or affirmatively), if you feel it strongly, that treatment will be demonstrated, and all the obstacles in the world could not stop it. The gates of hell shall not prevail against it. On the other hand, if you are the finest person who every walked, and you think a thought or give a treatment without feeling it, it is gone with the wind, and is heard of no more, because there must be the "father and the mother" - knowledge and feeling. The offspring is the demonstration or healing. There must always be feeling in order to effect a change or whatever it is you are seeking to express!

The key to healing in any area of your life; health, employment, success, love and so on, is to lift up your thought to the consciousness of the wholeness of life in you. You need not ask God for it, God is the wholeness, but you must accept it into your mind which has been seeing in part. You need to re-establish yourself in the  consciousness of the all-knowing Mind of God in you. How do you ask the sun for sunlight? By getting into the sun. How do you ask electricity for light for your lamp?  By turning on the switch. How do you "ask" God for what you want? By getting into the Spirit.  It is not something that God must do for you. It is what you must do for yourself to enable God to do for you that which it is His ceaseless longing to do. "It is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom" Luke 12:32.

No greater good can come to any man or woman than to become self-active. All the experiences of life are designed by Providence to force men and women into self-activity; to compel them to cease being creatures of circumstances and master their environment. In his lowest stage, man is the child of chance and circumstance and the slave of fear. His acts are all reactions resulting from the impingement upon him of forces in his environment. He acts only as he is acted upon; he originates nothing. But the lowest savage has within him a Principle of Power sufficient to master all that he fears; and if he learns this and becomes self-active, he becomes as one of the gods.  The awakening of the Principle of Power in man is the real conversion; the passing from death to life. It is when the dead hear the voice of the Son of Man and come forth and live. It is the resurrection and the life. When it is awakened, man becomes a son of the Highest and all power is given to him in heaven and on earth. Nothing was ever in any man that is not in you; no man ever had more spiritual or mental power than you can attain, or did greater things than you can accomplish. You can become what you want to be.

CONSCIOUS USE OF LAW GIVES POWER - Fletcher Harding

We should not be afraid of this Law of Liberty. Like every other law in nature, it is here to be used. And the conscious use of any law gives us a greater power than the unconscious use of it. We should have implicit confidence in this Law because it is absolute. It contains complete freedom for any individual who uses it. When enough persons use it consciously and constructively, it will provide a lesson for others that they may eagerly search for the truth and follow the example of those who have found it. When the whole world uses this Law of Liberty rightly, as it sometime must, then the world will be redeemed from its history.

But you and I, as individuals, cannot wait for the majority of people to come to understand this. We must begin to apply it at once in our own lives, being certain that nothing ever goes from our minds which would hurt anyone or anything. We must know with certainty that when we practice the Divine Presence and use the Law of Good constructively, we shall finally be redeemed from the errors of our previous experience. Love is the sole force which is irresistible. We must come to understand that both the Divine Presence, as a living, warm, colorful, loving, animating essence, and the Law of Liberty, as the great, only and final power in the universe, are to be found, and found only, at the center of our own being. This is why the-Bible says, "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he." (Proverbs 23:7) This is the greatest single revelation that can ever come to any person's mind: God is right where I am, and the whole of the Law of Good is at my disposal.

LAW OF LIBERTY CAN CREATE BONDAGE  - Fletcher Harding

Life is simple if we keep it simple in our own thought. The so-called problem of good and evil is tied up with this very simple fact: a fire is good to warm you and cook your food, but if you put your hand in it, it will burn you. The Law of Liberty is to be used to produce individual and collective freedom, but when this law is used only for selfish purposes, then the very law which might have, and should have, produced liberty, will create a temporary bondage. Let us take this illustration: God is truth, and the truth can never lie. But when we, as individuals, misuse the truth through lying, we at once open the doorway of our consciousness to the return circuits of the use we have made of the Law and discover that others can lie to us and misuse us. When we do this, the suffering that follows is not imposed on us by God, as though the Divine were inflicting an injury on its own creation. It is, rather, an automatic reaction of the Law of cause and effect.
